  • Scribus for Educators is a self-paced course designed introduce teachers to ways of using Scribus in the classroom, this includes both teacher and student activities. Scribus is an free, open source desktop publishing program that works on Windows, Mac OS X, and Linux. A desktop publishing program allows you a lot more flexibility when creating documents such as newsletters, posters, and fliers.

    To get the most out of the skills that you learn here you should also consider taking the Inkscape for Educators and Gimp for Educators courses.

  • Integrating Technology and Education is a 4 week course designed to help teachers use technology more effectively in their classroom.

    For every 5 people that sign up for this course there will be a price given away. So if 16 people sign up there will be three prize given away. Prizes will be items that we use in this course that you learned how to use effectively in your classroom. Everyone will receive a free gift DVD set containing the free and demo software that was used in this course.   • This is a brief course that introduces teachers to the basic features of Gimp (www.gimp.org) that are useful when preparing images for the classroom. This course covers the following topics:

    • Introduction to the tools
      Learn what tools are available to give you a foundation to explore from.
    • Cropping images
      Took a picture but didn't quite frame it right? You'll learn how to fix that.
    • Using the selection tools
      There are many different selection tools that can make it easier to manipulate the image to look the way you want it too. Have you ever found an image and put it in your powerpoint only to have a square corner make it unuseable. I'll teach you how to fix that.
    • Copying
      Learn how to manipulate an image by copying and pasting portions of the image.
    • Saving
      Learn about the different file types and how to make your files download faster if you post them on your website.
    • Fun extras

    Presentation is through links to tutorials and custom video clips.

    This is an asynchronous course meaning that you work through the activities at your own pace. You have 2 months or 61 days to finish the course.
